Updates on the Israel-Hezbollah Conflict

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby called the attack “deeply concerning” and said it represented evidence Israel was facing a legitimate threat from the Iran-backed terrorist group. Israel has attacked Hezbollah all week with airstrikes at targets in Lebanon, working to destroy its missile arsenal and ability to strike Israel. The IDF has said it struck 280 sites in Lebanon.
The U.S., France and other allies called this morning for an immediate 21-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Israel has already rejected it, with Foreign Minister Israel Katz saying, “There will be no ceasefire in the north.” The joint statement was negotiated by participants at the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
