2 Thessalonians 2:3–12—The Man of Lawlessness

In this episode, I examine one of the most comprehensive biblical passages about the coming Antichrist—2 Thessalonians 2:3-12. With about 100 passages in Scripture giving us information about this coming world leader, God has been pleased to reveal extensive details about his career and ultimate doom. Paul’s teaching here provides an incredible prophetic timetable that every believer needs to understand.

I break down this passage into five key areas:

1. The rise of the Antichrist after the Rapture, where we see him called the “man of lawlessness” and “son of destruction”—titles that reveal his evil nature and doomed destiny. Just as history began with the sin of man, it will end with the man of sin.

2. The rebuilt Temple where the Antichrist will sit in the Holy of Holies declaring himself to be God, creating the Abomination of Desolation that Jesus warned about.

3. The removal of the restrainer—which I believe is the Holy Spirit working through the Church. This restraining influence is what currently holds back Satan from bringing his man onto the world scene, providing strong evidence for a pre-Tribulation Rapture.

4. I explain how the “mystery of lawlessness” is already at work today, with all the necessary factors in place, but being held back until God’s appointed time.

5. I address the rejection of truth and God’s strong delusion, clarifying that this applies to those who reject Christ during the Tribulation, not to people today who might hear the gospel again after the Rapture.

This passage reminds us that the safest place to be during earth’s coming earthquake is in the air with the Lord.
