U.S. Accelerates Nuclear Arms Race in New Mexico Lab

At Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico, the United States is developing a nuclear weapon known as the B61-13 gravity bomb. It weighs 824 pounds and contains enough plutonium to “vaporize a city center and kill and maim three million people in the blink of an eye,” according to this report. The bomb is 24 times more powerful than the bomb that fell on Hiroshima at the end of World War 2.

Recently the national production timeline for this weapon was moved up as a result of the nation’s “urgent need” for a new nuclear deterrent. Why? Because Russia, China, North Korea and even the UK are increasing their stockpiles of combat-ready nuclear warheads.
