Gazans are Now Protesting Against Hamas

In what may become a much larger story, thousands of Palestinian residents in Gaza began taking to the streets this week to protest against war. Importantly, it was not just against Israel’s involvement in the war, but against their own Hamas leadership. Many of these protestors are blaming Hamas for the destruction they’ve had to endure, especially given the resumption of military operations with Israel’s new round of air strikes last week.

Here’s one report on the ground in Gaza:

“We are oppressed by the occupation army (Israel) and we are oppressed by Hamas,” [one protestor said]. “Hamas launched the October 7 operation, and today we are paying the price,” he said, referring to the militant group’s 2023 attacks on Israel that led to the war.

The protests started on Tuesday and then continued.
