America’s Deteriorating Relationship with God

Religious researcher Dr. George Barna released a new report last week showing that Americans are dramatically minimizing their reliance on God in everyday life. While the rise in young people abandoning faith seems to have leveled off, our culture is still shifting away from a biblical worldview.

Consider these stats from his PDF report:

• Only 40 percent of all Americans believe that the God of the Bible exists and influences human lives.

• Just 16 percent say that God is the most important element in their lives.

• Less than one in 10 Americans report having an “intimate, interactive spiritual relationship” with God.

• Only 14 percent allow God to have total influence over their life choices.
