Is an Israel/Hamas Ceasefire in the Works?
After calling for a Gaza ceasefire in late June, senior Israeli officials met with the Trump administration at the White House on Tuesday for more discussions about a ceasefire and hostage deal. President Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu have now met twice this week with Qatari mediators, with Trump pressing the Israeli prime minister to make a deal.
According to this article, “White House envoy Steve Witkoff said Tuesday that three of four areas of disagreement had been resolved in recent days.” Those disagreements were related to how much the IDF would withdraw from its positions held in Gaza and how those forces would be redeployed in a ceasefire. Netanyahu is still under a lot of pressure in Israel not to make any concessions, and any concessions he does make would have to be approved by his cabinet.
