Elon Musk and the Next Step for Neuralink
The FDA approves human brain-computer tests. Change is coming.
I’ve written several times in the past about my concerns regarding Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain-implant venture. Musk has promised that Neuralink will put a “Fitbit in your skull,” using artificial intelligence and deep machine learning to link human brains with computers.
The company calls its products brain-machine interfaces (BMI) and intends to use them to enhance human capabilities and address neurological disorders, including spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, epilepsy and seizure disorders and stroke rehabilitation. For instance, it employs “mind-reading technology” to help people with severe paralysis regain control over their bodies, using signals from the brain.
Through invasive surgery, it implants a small, circular computer chip called “the Link” in the brain and connects it to a computer. A bed of wires comes from the device to monitor activity and stimulate certain areas with electricity.
An Irreversible Change
