Israel Hits at Least 20 Iranian Targets
According to satellite data, Israel’s attack on Iran early Saturday morning seems to have damaged facilities at what Politico calls “a secretive military base” southeast of Tehran. In the past, the Parchin military base has been linked to Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
Another damaged base, Khojir, has a connection to Iran’s ballistic missile program and was thought to hide an underground tunnel system. Iran has not acknowledged any damage at the two bases. Israel’s statement immediately after the attack said that among its 20 targets were “missile manufacturing facilities used to produce the missiles that Iran fired at the state of Israel over the last year.”
Interestingly, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei referenced the strike on Sunday, and said the attack by Israel “should not be exaggerated nor downplayed”—but he did not immediately call for aggressive retaliation, which is his usual response.
Meanwhile, Israel has claimed that the strike met all its goals and caused severe harm to Iran. First, I hope you’ll watch my colleague Brian Schrauger’s video from yesterday.
