Iran’s President Vows Complete Destruction of Israel
While Israel weighs a response to last weekend’s unsuccessful missile attack by Iran, leaders of Iran are already bracing for the return strike and threatening a counterattack. Should Israel proceed with even the “tiniest invasion” of Iranian territory, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said yesterday, the response from Iran would be “massive and harsh.”
Raisi said Saturday’s attack was a limited one, and that if Iran was provoked to carry out a bigger attack, “nothing would remain from the Zionist regime,” the official IRNA news agency reported.
Israel’s war cabinet has been meeting throughout the week to decide upon future action, while the United States and other allies have been pleading for both sides to de-escalate rather than expanding the conflict further. Interestingly, a recent poll indicates that 74 percent of Israeli citizens also oppose a counterstrike on Iran if “such an action would harm Israel’s security alliance with its allies.”
