Putin is Backed into a Corner

Desperate leaders are the most dangerous leaders. What's next?

No doubt, most of you have seen the latest headlines about Russia and Ukraine. Last week, Ukraine launched a powerful counter offensive and Russia suffered major setbacks in its invasion. This has humiliated Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Backed into a corner, he’s now ratcheting up his war efforts. His Defense Minister announced this week that the country would be calling up 300,000 reservists. He raised the draft age to 65, which means around 25 million of his citizens could be eligible for military service. He is actively recruiting prisoners to fight.

And now he’s threatening a nuclear response—not just against Ukraine, but against any NATO nations that would come to the aid of Ukraine. In other words, he’s making serious threats not just against the people of Ukraine, but against the West. In Putin’s own words, “This is not a bluff.”
