In our study, we’ve made it all the way to the Millennial Kingdom. We’ve talked about Christ’s Second Coming and Armageddon—now we come to the rule and reign of Jesus Christ on the earth for 1000 years. Before we dive into the characteristics of that Kingdom in coming weeks, I want to lay the foundation for why I believe in a literal 1000-year reign of Christ on earth. Many hold to amillennialism or postmillennialism, believing we’re in the kingdom now and the 1000 years is just symbolic. I believe the kingdom is inaugurated when Jesus returns and it will be a literal, earthly, 1000-year reign on this restored planet. I’ve got a handy acronym that spells PRE-MIL to help us remember six biblical reasons why we should believe in a future Millennium. Let me walk you through them.
Key Facts
P - Promises of God: God promised Abraham/Isaac/Jacob specific land forever (Genesis 15:15–18) - never fully fulfilled; promised David his descendant would sit on David’s throne ruling David’s kingdom (Israel) from Jerusalem - never happened; millennium fulfills these unfulfilled covenants
R - Retribution Against False Trinity: Revelation 19 - Jesus returns, Antichrist and False Prophet thrown in lake of fire; Revelation 20:1 immediately follows - Satan bound in abyss 1000 years; all three members of counterfeit trinity dealt with sequentially; proves Millennium follows Second Coming, not happening now
E - Earliest View: Premillennialism (called “chiliasm” from Greek chilias = 1000) was earliest church view; Papias (disciple of John) believed literal 1000 years; Victorinus wrote oldest Revelation commentary (premillennial); Irenaeus (taught by Polycarp who knew John) believed literal Millennium, pre-Trib Rapture, 3.5 year Antichrist, rebuilt Temple
M - Most Natural Reading: Revelation 19–20 uses “and I saw” repeatedly showing sequential/chronological progression; heaven opens → Christ returns → Armageddon → angel binds Satan → 1000 years → Great White Throne → New Heaven/Earth; amillennialists/postmillennialists must go back to first coming with nothing in text indicating that
I - Incarceration of Satan: Rev 20:1-3 - Satan bound, thrown in Abyss, shut and sealed so he can’t deceive nations; Satan today is “god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4), “prince of power of air” (Ephesians 2:2), “roaring lion” (1 Peter 5:8); can’t be bound now; Abyss is where demons held (Revelation 9, Luke 8:31)
L - Literal 1000 Years: “1000 years” repeated 6 times in 7 verses (Revelation 20:1–7); other literal time periods in Revelation: 10 days, 42 months, 1260 days, 144,000; contrasted with non-specific “short time” Satan released - if 1000 means “long time” why not say that?
Chain Analogy Defense: Objection: chain is symbolic so binding/1000 years symbolic; Dr. Hitchcock’s response: “chained to my desk for 2 hours” - chain is metaphor but 2 hours literal; metaphor stands for reality (restraint); one symbolic element doesn’t make everything symbolic
Final Proof Text: Revelation 5:10–11 - believers “will reign upon the earth” (future tense); Coming weeks will cover characteristics of Millennium and what believers will do during that time

The End Times Timeline: God’s Eternal Plan Revealed
This small comprehensive book, The End Times Timeline provides believers with an accessible framework for understanding biblical prophecy. It traces God’s prophetic program from the Old Testament through the eternal state. What’s particularly noteworthy is how current events align with ancient predictions—Israel’s restoration, technological advances enabling global surveillance, and the geopolitical alignment of nations mentioned in Ezekiel 38–39.
The timeline identifies key prophetic milestones: the Rapture preceding the Tribulation, the rise of Antichrist, the rebuilt Temple, and Christ’s Second Coming. While some debate the timing of particular events like the Gog-Magog War, the overall framework reflects solid Bible research. This resource serves as an excellent tool for both new believers seeking prophetic clarity and mature Christians desiring to understand their place in God’s unfolding plan.
