Is a Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire Possible?

A ceasefire is in the works between Russia and Ukraine. Yesterday, after weeks of uncertainty related to the United States’ commitment to defending Ukraine, members of the Trump administration all spoke to the press with the same message. The U.S. and Ukraine had negotiated a deal, and if Russia didn’t agree to it, there would be economic consequences.

President Trump, Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio all gave the same statements yesterday, even though recently the administration had stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine and had paused military support. That had damaged the strength of Ukraine’s military, along with its morale. But this week’s announcement has given a little more hope.
