The people of Russia largely do not support Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The latest news reports show soldiers defecting, anti-war protests in Moscow and dozens of other Russian cities, and frustration among its oligarchs who are starting to feel the effects of economic sanctions. Direct flights between Russia and Europe have been grounded. The Russian economy is tanking. The ruble is now worth less than a cent. Western brands like McDonald’s, Apple and Netflix have voluntarily severed ties with Russia.
