Palestinian Journalist Shot in Israel
While covering an Israeli military operation in the West Bank of Israel, the Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot and killed yesterday. According to the Palestinian health ministry, Abu Akleh was shot in the head by a live bullet. Her producer, Ali Al-Samudi, was also shot and is in stable condition.
Abu Akleh was reporting for Al Jazeera, the international news organization based in the Muslim nation of Qatar. Though wearing a helmet, she was shot below the ear. She also was wearing a bulletproof vest, labeled “press.”
