Uvalde school shooting, Monkeypox outbreak, and new members of NATO

Yesterday, while I was working on a future post for endtimes.com about how bad things have gotten in our world, I started hearing the news updates about the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. Uvalde is a few hundred miles southwest of where I live in Dallas, but it might as well have been in my community, or your own neighborhood.

As of last night, the death toll was up to 21 people, including 19 children. The attack represents the deadliest school shooting in almost a decade. The 18-year-old gunman is said to have shot his grandmother before going to the school.

Uvalde was the 213th mass shooting in the United States in 2022. It was the 30th shooting this year at a school.

I am a gun owner and a Second Amendment supporter, but I am also a follower of Jesus who is heartbroken about this violence. The brutality of gun violence in our nation right now is clearly a symptom of a larger evil. The kind of demonic oppression it takes to kill 10-year-olds at school—and to shoot your own grandmother—is not the kind of evil that can be held in check by tighter gun laws or legislation. It is pure wickedness.
