U.S. Brokers Sudan-Israel Peace Deal
Sudan joins UAE and and Bahrain as third Arab country in Abraham Accords
Today, from the Oval Office, President Trump announced that the nation of Sudan would become the third Arab nation to normalize relations with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords. Sudan joins Bahrain and United Arab Emirates in the accords, which many see as an important step toward creating peace in the Middle East.
Until the last few weeks, Egypt and Jordan had been the only Arab nations to recognize Israel in modern history.
The announcement came today while Trump was on the phone with the leaders of Israel and Sudan. He invited reporters into the Oval Office to listen to the call. In announcing the deal, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sudan would also provide $335 million in compensation to the victims of the 1998 bombings of the U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which occurred while Osama bin Laden was running al-Qaida from Sudan. This would allow the U.S. to remove Sudan from its “black list” of state terrorism sponsors.
Touting this major foreign policy achievement in the weeks before the election, Trump said five other countries also wanted peace with Israel. “We have many lined up. They want to come in, get the deal done,” he said.
Is Saudi Arabia next?
According to Trump, one of those countries will be Saudi Arabia:
“There’s going to be a big reunion, where everybody is here, everybody’s going to be signed. We expect Saudi Arabia’s going to be one of those countries. Highly respected. The King and the Crown Prince. They’re all just highly respected in the Middle East.”
As I’ve written in the past, I welcome the Abraham Accords because I believe they are a step toward peace in the Middle East. At the same time, I don’t think true peace will ever be possible in this historically turbulent region. The Bible predicts that the Middle East will be the epicenter of global conflict in the last days, and I think these steps toward peace will actually hasten the Gog-Magog War.
Ezekiel 38 predicts this war, and refers to “friendly” nations on the Arabian Peninsula that will come alongside Israel as she defends herself against the Gog-Magog invaders. Saudi Arabia and Yemen are two of the most powerful nations in the region, and I believe the nations of Sheba and Dedan in Ezekiel 38:13 are in reference to them.
So I would absolutely not be surprised if Saudi Arabia ends up part of the Abraham Accords.
What will be Iran’s involvement?
But one thing President Trump said to reporters gives me pause. According to Fox News, Trump said Iran was also on track to join the Accords and normalize relations with Israel.
“Iran ultimately will become a member of this whole thing. Look, someday I’d love to help Iran get back on track. They’ve gone from a rich country to a poor country in three years…But they can’t have nuclear weapons,” he continued. “It’s always death to Israel, that’s all they shout. So they can’t have nuclear weapons.”
In Ezekiel 38, the nation identified as “Persia” refers to modern-day Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran will be a major player in the Gog-Magog war and one of the nations that aligns against Israel. God warns that those nations that come against Israel will face His wrath:
“And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that My fury will show in My face. 19 For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, 20 so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.’”—Ezekiel 38:18-20
Meanwhile, the reason the Jewish state needs allies today is because Iran has consistently threatened destruction of Israel. The stated purpose of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to destroy the nation of Israel. Radical Islamists, which include the Iranians and ISIS, believe Allah has called them to destroy Israel and usher in the end of the age with their own version of the messiah.
Through Ezekiel, God says, “Let Me tell you something, Iran. Let Me tell you something, all you Islamic countries who want to destroy Israel. I’m in control of you, and when I’m ready, I’m going to put a hook in your jaw. I’m going to drag you down to the mountains of Israel, and then I’m going to kill you Myself on account of My people Israel.”
Until that day, because of this stated objective to decimate Israel, Iran should never be allowed to obtain serious weaponry. American leaders have taken a hardline stance against Iran because they know the stated goals and behind-the-scenes maneuverings of that government. (Iran is listed on the same terrorism “black list” that Sudan is being removed from. North Korea and Syria are also on that list.)
To tell the truth, a lot of things would have to change with Iran for them to be brought into the Abraham Accords. Even if it does happen, that peace will only be temporary. End times prophecy in the Bible makes this clear.
Regardless, all the nations Ezekiel lists are accounted for today. The Gog-Magog War could be the prelude to Israel’s seven-year covenant with the Antichrist. We continue to see the fulfillment of Bible prophecy.
It is remarkable that with the election being so close, and all that is going on in our Country right now, our President Trump keeps his eye on the ball with Israel.
Pastor Jimmy, I don't think Iran is to be trusted ever... and I think President Trump doesn't think so either. I watched when he made the comments about the other countries who are lined up to join the Abraham Accord and then when he spoke about Iran he deliberately brought up... "But they (Iran) can’t have nuclear weapons,” he continued. “It’s always death to Israel, that’s all they shout. So they can’t have nuclear weapons.” He knows they have always had evil intentions when it comes to Israel.
