Biden Authorizes Ukraine to Use Long-Range Missiles

In a decision sending shockwaves through Russia, President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine over the weekend to use long-range, American-made ATACMS missiles inside Russia. And then yesterday, Ukraine’s military used those American missiles to strike into Russia.

Previously, the U.S. had been providing shorter-range missiles that were restricted to use in Ukrainian territory which Russia had seized. The longer-range missiles allow Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia—and could be perceived by Russia as the United States becoming more directly involved in Ukraine’s defense.

It runs the risk of angering Moscow, and that already seems to be happening.
