In today’s Prophecy Perspectives, I examine a foundational cornerstone of Bible prophecy – the Abrahamic Covenant. This 4,000-year-old agreement between God and Abraham established the trajectory of the Jewish people throughout history and continues to shape today’s headlines.
Unlike the temporary, conditional Mosaic Covenant, the Abrahamic Covenant is unilateral, unconditional, and eternal. I explain how God’s covenant with Abraham contains three main promises – land (soil), descendants (seed), and blessing (salvation)—which are expanded through the Land Covenant, Davidic Covenant, and New Covenant respectively. The striking ceremonial ratification in Genesis 15, where God alone passed between the sacrificial animals while Abraham slept, underscores its unconditional nature.
With Israel’s modern restoration (from 6% of world Jewry in 1948 to over 40% today), we’re witnessing preparation for the covenant’s ultimate fulfillment when Jesus returns. As believers, we can trust that just as God is keeping His promises to Abraham, He will keep all His promises to us.
