The “Destroy Israel” Clock

Today I discuss not the famous Doomsday Clock created by atomic scientists in 1947, but a far more sinister timepiece—Iran’s “Destroy Israel” Clock that sat in Tehran’s Palestine Square until just a few days ago. This massive digital billboard counts down the days until September 21, 2040, when Iran’s Supreme Leader predicts Israel will cease to exist. The clock displays “Only [X] days remaining to the annihilation of Israel” in Farsi, English, and Arabic, featuring a Palestinian flag-colored fist punching through an Israeli flag.

Israel claims they destroyed this clock in their June 23rd airstrike during their twelve-day war with Iran, though Iran disputes this with unverified footage. Whether the physical clock survived matters less than what it represents—Iran’s doomsday theology remains intact. This isn’t mere political rhetoric; it’s apocalyptic ideology woven into their core beliefs about the coming of the Mahdi, their hidden twelfth Imam. Iranian theologians consistently teach that before the Mahdi appears, there will be no Jewish state. This explains why any Middle East peace will be temporary—Iran will use peaceful periods simply to reload. As Ezekiel 38 prophesies, Iran will ultimately be part of the end-times coalition against Israel, making their current hatred both predictable and prophetic.

Today I also addressed three important theological questions from subscribers. The first asked me to define dispensationalism versus non-dispensationalism and provide arguments for the dispensational position. The second question challenged why we use the word “predict” when discussing Bible prophecy, arguing it lacks authority compared to weather forecasting and occult predictions, when God’s prophecies are absolute and authoritative. The final question referenced a Matt Chandler quote about Revelation being given to encourage believers for 2000 years rather than just informing about the End Times. These questions touched on fundamental issues of biblical interpretation, prophetic terminology, and the practical relevance of the Bible’s prophetic literature.
