Russia Announces New Nuclear Doctrine
At the same time the Biden administration was allowing Ukraine to use American-made long-range missiles in Russia—which I mentioned on Tuesday—Vladimir Putin was using the threat of nuclear war as leverage.
As Dr. Mark Hitchcock discussed in this morning’s Marking the End Times video, Russia declared for the first time that it was adopting a new nuclear doctrine that allowed it to use nuclear weapons in two ways:
in response to an attack that threatened its survival
in response to any attack that posed a “critical threat” to its sovereignty
and potentially against a state that may not have its own nuclear weapons, as long as that state is backed by a nuclear power.
Those last two circumstances, which involve territorial integrity and can apply to Ukraine, are new. That could apply to the use of American-made missiles striking its military bases or weapons arsenals. And that could apply to Ukraine, which is backed by the United States, the UK and France. The New York Times points out that those three countries are three of the five original nuclear-armed states.
