Giving Life to Israel

Israel Update with Brian Schrauger (04.08.25)
14

I'm Brian Schrager, reporting from Jerusalem where I've had the privilege of witnessing Bakehila's remarkable work firsthand. This Israeli nonprofit, whose name means "In the Community," was founded by Ariel and Debbie Margalit with a vision of providing equal opportunities to all children regardless of background. Their Birthday Angels program touched my heart as I learned how they celebrate children from disadvantaged families and those displaced by conflict. Since October 7th, I've seen how Bakehila expanded their reach, celebrating over 800 birthdays for evacuated children. Their 16 young volunteers work tirelessly across Jerusalem and northern Israel, creating connections that transform communities. As someone who's walked these streets and met these dedicated individuals, I can attest that Bakehila relies on donations to continue bringing hope and belonging to children during their darkest times.

Support Israel’s Vulnerable Children

This month, we're partnering with Bakehila to bless Israel by supporting their "Birthday Angels" program, which brings joy and celebration to vulnerable children displaced by conflict in the region. Your gift in multiples of 18—symbolizing "chai" or "life" in Hebrew tradition—will help fund mobile celebration units that create personalized birthday experiences for children uprooted from their homes. Through this initiative, we can fulfill the biblical principle in Psalm 34:18 of bringing comfort to the brokenhearted while honoring God's promise in Genesis 12:3 to bless those who bless Abraham's descendants. Please prayerfully consider making a special contribution today to support this vital work for Israel's most vulnerable children.
